Petra Collins is a twenty-two years old photographer from Toronto, Canada. She began to explore your photography at age fifteen, she has photographed for several magazines such as Vice, Rookie, Vogue Italia, Purple and Urban Outfitters. In 2013, Collins worked with American Apparel launching a menstruation / masturbation vagina tee shirt. About the shirt Petra said : '' I’m really interested in what is hidden from our culture. We are always repressing or hiding what is natural to a post-pubescent body. We’re taught to hate our menstrual cycle and even to hide masturbation."
She is a supporter of the pubic hair and the feminist generation. Her work as a photographer portrays the search to giving young women space and freedom over your own body.

The teenage gaze by Petra Collins

As a woman, we are taught to hate our bodies, our menstruation, our body's hair. We are taught to deny our sexual desire, our will to expression. We live in a society where our bodies are a distraction to men, so we have to cover it. For example, in a work environment we have to wear bras and we can't wear shorts or skirts that are above our knees. We are judged for doing a abortion, but the men aren't judged for not using a condom.
So, seeing a work like Petra does, it's a relief for young women who wants to be free.
See you soon
